Sydney Harbour Fishing Report - 29/10/2023 - SAME Fishing Aus

Got up early with Tanya, my fiance, we had plans to fish in Sydney Harbour, because we have been seeing good reports of kingfish turning up. At around 6am we launched the boat at Ermington boat ramp. There wasn't many boats out at the ramp, which made the process that much quicker.

My goal for the day was to use light jig & slow jig a decent sized Sydney Harbour kingfish. My set up are as followed:

    Rod: Light Power Game (LPGS-66MH)
    Reel: Saragossa 5000XG
    Braid: Samurai Jigging Braid PE2
    Lure: Minnow jig 40g
Leader: Black Magic Tough Trace 40lbs

We raced through Parramatta river at 32knots and got to the famous red buoy marker just before the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I casted the minnow jig to the east side of the marker buoy, because thats where the drop off begins. I let the jig sink down to around 15m and started to flick my rod tip to create some action on the lure.

First cast and i was hooked on to something which felt like it had decent size. After fighting it for a short while the hook slipped and I lost the fish. Nevertheless, It means our goal to jig up a Sydney Harbour kingfish might be possible today!. Unfortunately, after 15 minutes of trying at the same spot nothing else happened. so we decided to move on.

Our second spot North Head headlands. I tied a paternoster rig for Tanya on her set up. It was rough and the swell was around 1.5m so we didn't fish there and decided to head back into the harbour.

Rod: Falling Slow Pitch Jigging Rod (FJ-622S-H)
    Reel: Stella 6000pg
    Braid: Samurai Jigging Braid PE2
    Bait: Squid strip

We drove around the harbour looking for any signs of life on my sounder and decided to try our luck at Bradley's head.

We caught a mixed bag of species on squid strips including leatherjacket, flounder and a 31cm snapper. Nothing crazy, but the weather was crap so we headed back home after only a few hours of fishing.
